As the name suggests, this snack is prepared with a mixed variety of dals/parippu - toor dal and moong dal ( sambar parippu & cherupayar). The recipe is a combination of a recipe I got from my neighbour & a recipe I got from a magazine. The magazine recipe had urad dal (uzhunu parippu) too, but I just didn't use it here. You can try though, and do let me know how it goes. And also, I've used toor dal instead of bengal gram/kadala parippu (didn't have any of these).
Toor dal - 1/2 cup
Split yellow moong dal - 1/2 cup
Onion - 1 - finely chopped
Green chilli - 2
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - few - chopped
Coriander leaves - few - chopped
Salt - to taste
Oil - for frying
Soak the dals for a few hours. Grind them in a mixer along with green chillies and ginger garlic paste. Do not add any water. Be careful not to grind it into a fine paste, just a few turns in the mixer is enough. Add salt, chopped onion, curry leaves and coriander leaves to the coarse mixture and mix well. Take little from this mixture and flatten it in your palm. Take it carefully from your palm and put in hot oil. When one side gets browned, flip it and fry the other side as well. Repeat procedure with the rest of the mix. Your evening snack is ready.
P.S : I didn't have any coriander and curry leaves with me, so you might find that missing in the pic. I just didn't have the patience to wait till I had all the necessary ingredients. Had to prepare something when my son got back from school :) .
